How to bring more balance in 2025
"There really is no such thing as “work/life balance.”
Yep, I’ve just said it.
When you’re a business owner like me, your work is a huge part of your life, it’s all interconnected. That’s why it’s a good job we actually love what we do!However, even when you love it, it’s still easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, spinning all the plates and never quite getting the chance to step back and focus on where you’re heading. That’s where taking some time out to complete the Wheel of Life exercise can have a big impact, especially at this time of year.
This simple yet powerful exercise helps you take a step back and get clear on where you want to be in all areas of your life. By encouraging you to look at all the different areas of your life, it helps you to see what you need to focus on to get there.
And if you really invest some time into carrying out the different activities it can really make a difference. It’s about a lot more than just reflecting on your business, it’s about creating the space and focus you need to get off and stay off the hamster wheel and really move your business and life forward in 2025.
Here are my 5 simple steps to get focused and bring more balance in 2025:
Step 1 - Draw a big camembert and divide into segments
Next, decide which areas of your life feel the most important and insert one into each segment of the camembert.
Some ideas:
Money & Finances
Business & Career
Health & Wellbeing
Family & Friends
Personal Development
Romance
Fun
💡 Remember there’s no right or wrong here.
Step 2– Check-in with yourself
Take a moment to check-in with each area and explore how you feel about this area of your life.
Ask yourself:
What brings you joy?
Where do you feel frustrated or resentful?
What’s working well or not so well?
What are you most proud of?
Where are you facing the most challenges?
Give each one a score out of 10 where 1 = dreadful and 10 = wonderful.
Step 3 – Where do you want to be? (this time next year)
Now, close your eyes and imagine yourself one year from now and ask yourself these questions:
What does your life look like?
How is your business?
How are you feeling?
How do you want to feel in each area?
Work through each of the 8 segments and think about where you want to be and how you want to show up in each area of your life.
Step 4 – Closing the Gap
Look at the gap between where you are now and where you want to be at the end of the year. How does that make you feel?
Take some time to ask yourself these questions:
What do you need to stop doing, start doing or maybe do more of in order to move closer to where you want to be?
What will have the biggest impact on how you feel?
What is the 1st baby step or small action I can take to get started?
Repeat for each of the 8 camembert segments.
Step 5 - Make a commitment to yourself
Look at your list of 8 strategies (baby steps) and organise them in order of priority, biggest impact or simply the joy factor.
Take a photo and upload it to your screensaver on your phone to help hold yourself accountable.
